Discover Girona: Spain’s Gravel Riding Paradise

Cycling in Girona was one of those experiences that reminded me exactly why I fell in love with gravel riding. From the moment I set off, the landscape seemed to unfold endlessly, golden hills, olive groves and quiet gravel tracks through forests and stone villages.

The gravel here is world class, smooth in places, rugged in others, always leading somewhere unexpected. I could ride for hours following  trails that opened into wide valleys and mountain views that stretched to the Pyrenees. On the road, the climbs are just as rewarding, from Els Àngels and Mare de Déu del Mont to the iconic Rocacorba.

When I wasn’t on the bike, I wandered through Girona’s old town, along cobbled streets and stopping in cafés filled with cyclists swapping stories from the day. There’s something about Girona that draws you in, a quiet charm that makes you want to stay a little longer.

By the time I left, legs tired and sun kissed, I realised Girona isn’t just a cycling destination. It’s a reminder of why we ride, for the open roads, the hidden trails and the satisfying crunch of gravel beneath our wheels.
